Your university has access to many collections of journals. You can search these instead of or as well as LibrarySearch if you wish. A few which are particularly relevant to the social sciences include:
Please note: searching these is different to searching a database, as they only contain journals from one publisher. They also have less sophisticated search engines.
You may not have heard of journals except perhaps to describe some sort of personal diary. At University you will be introduced to a range of journals which are published periodically by different publishers.
They are published usually weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually. Think of them like the magazines you see in supermarkets covering lots of different interests.
Academic journals will contain important articles which you will have to consult at some point on your academic journey. These could be reporting latest research in a discipline, reviewing literature on a topic or providing information about best practice.
All written by experts, journals are available in print or electronic format, but the majority of articles now are available electronically.
